Where to stay in Stockholm: Hotel Stureplan

Posted on 20. Dec, 2012 by in Destinations, Europe Travel, Reviews, Sweden

While I may have preferred budget accommodation during my Scandinavia stint (after all, the region is expensive enough as it is), I did treat myself to a luxury hotel in the heart of Stockholm’s most prestigious neighborhood: the Hotel Stureplan.

The Hotel is located close to Östermalmstorg T-bana, making it very easy to travel to and from. Transportation-wise, it’s a winner.

And neighborhood-wise too, in fact. The trendy and fancy Ostermalm area is home to some of Stockholm’s most exclusive addresses, both shopping and eating and clubbing wise. There are many high-ends dining options nearby, as well as designer shops and some of the city’s prettiest parks, if your budget doesn’t allow a Chanel outing.

The hotel is a mix of modern and old, but the good kind of old - I’m talking art deco! I absolutely fell in love with the old school elevator, which may not be the most efficient by North American standards but is just too pretty and precious to blame.

My tastebuds and I also appreciated the expansive breakfast buffet, fully loaded with eggs, bacon, croissants, fresh fruits and so much more. Definitely a good start to the day!

Additionally, the hotel features quite a few common rooms located on different levels, and are all very charming in a vintage way. It goes without saying that the Hotel Stureplan knows how to do things in style.

Even though I loved the hotel as a whole, I have to admit that the room was my favorite part. It was, first of all, absolutely gigantic! It felt good to have enough room for my luggage, a giant bed and my (many) shopping bags. The room was also fully equipped with a plasma television, free wifi, a fancy bathroom and toiletries, as well as fluffy, soft bed linen.

My only regret is that I only had one night there - I really wish I could have taken advantage of this comfort for a few more nights.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Hotel Stureplan to anyone who can afford it - it’s a stylish, luxurious and all-around awesome hotel like few others. Definitely the best option in Stockholm, if you ask me!
