Who am I kidding? I ♥ Paris.

Took you long enough!”

That’s what my friends (and everyone I know, basically) told me when Paris and I had an understanding, and I finally came around. 4 years after my first infamously disastrous visit, and 5 trips later, including one where I did warm up to the city a little bit, I have finally joined the Paris Lovers club.

And now I can’t get enough!

Maybe it’s the city feel I miss so much. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been in London in so long that the pedestal has lowered down. Maybe it’s simply because I’ve grown up a little bit and stopped referring to my unfortunate first visit all these years ago.

Whatever the reason, Paris is now one of my favorite places in the world, and if I had the chance to live there for a few months, I would be the giddiest expat in France. Here are a few things that have helped me on my rocky road to loving Paris.

I love the architecture.

Because Parisian architecture is recognizable in a glimpse, is unique in the world, and travels through so many eras.

The Seine banks

The 16th arrondissement

Opéra Garnier

I love the quirks.

Because Paris, as any big city, is unpredictable and doesn’t like conformity. And that’s what makes it so charming.

Wine tasting on Place des Vosges

Impromptu concert in Le Marais

The bookshops along the Seine

I love the landmarks.

Because who can ever see the Eiffel Tower one time too many? Is such a thing even possible?

Notre-Dame-de-Paris

The Eiffel Tower seen from the Champs-de-Mars

The pyramid of the Louvre Museum

I love the terrace culture.

Because very few things are more enjoyable than sitting with a glass of rosé while indulging on some good old-fashioned, guilt-free people watching. And possibly judging.

Bistro in the 5th arrondissement

terraces on Ile de la Cité

Famous Café de Flore

It might have taken me an uncharacteristically long time to come around (I fall in love with places almost instantly), but now that I did… there’s no going back.

I love Paris, and I’ll love her forever.

Have you ever been to Paris? What’s your favorite thing about it? Did you not like it at first sight too?

I have been to Paris several times. The first time I was shocked at the amount of dog poop on the streets but I must say they cleaned up a lot ever since. I also hate when people don’t speak English-I don’t mean regular people but the ones in the main metro stations where it says “Information”.

    First of all, great pictures!

I’ve been to Paris 3 times and fell in love with it almost instantly (I think cafe creme did it…). I love the architecture, walkability, its general artsy/elegant vibe, and of course the cafe culture. Plus, as a soccer fan, I had a great time at a PSG game. :)

I too was not a huge fan the first time I went however something drew me back there and I miss it like crazy now! I love almost everything about it. I could live without (what I think is) filth however that is part of its character. Paris is one of a kind and if I had the resources to do so, I would move to the most expensive city in the world!!!

Wonderful! I love, love, love Paris and would live there if I could. There is just so much wonderfulness - I have been there numerous times (5 in the last 6 months plus previous visits) and I just can’t get enough of everything! So welcome to the right or left (bank) side!

5 times in the last 6 months? You should think of buying a flat there, it would probably be cheaper in the end. :P

Paris really does seem to fit to black and white doesn’t it?

I loved the architecture the best, too. It outshines anything we have here in the US. Everywhere you look, there’s something “shiny” to look at. I love that I would walk up the stairs out of the metro and be faced with the most breathtaking views-sometimes just from the architecture of the buildings in front of me.

Indeed Paris architecture is quite unique and instantly recognizable, and so much more original than American concrete buildings!

I have a obession with Paris during the second world war and don’t know why as I have never been there. Any books, films, articles etc and I am straight there for the history aspect.

There are so many great things to see about WWII in Paris - notably the Arc de Triomphe, where Hitler once stood - goosebumps guaranteed!

Beautiful photos! I’ve been living in Paris for five months now and I’m still not in love with it. I can appreciate that it’s beautiful and cultural and all that, but something about it just doesn’t click with me. And yes, you can definitely see the Eiffel Tower one times too many (especially if you live near the Trocadero. So many tourists about!)

I have not been to France yet but it’s on my list for this summer. I absolutely cannot wait to visit.

Lovely photos. Easy to see why it’s so easy for you to love the city so much. :)

This year will be our third time in Paris. It is a big city and like most, it has its issues but when you are able to see passed them and discover its beauty, that’s when you fall in love.

I visited Paris on and off and then moved there a year ago and I did not dislike it but never really warmed up to it. I hate most the touristy idea of Paris and all that caters to it. Apart from the wonderful historical parts, I thought that Parisians were too generous in their praise for their own city.
Now I am away for three months and I find that I miss that city so much. This post made me want to end my holiday and go back right now. Paris is like those sepia tinted pictures- I hate it because everyone else likes it so much but I have to admit its lovely.
