Living Like a Londoner with base2stay Kensington

Posted on 16. Jun, 2012 by in Europe Travel, Reviews, United Kingdom

To say I was excited to try out base2stay Kensington is a bit of an understatement. I’m a big fan of comfort, affordable luxury and hotel rooms with a kitchenette, and that’s exactly what I got at base2stay.

I have to be honest and say that things started off extremely well when I opened the door and noticed the bottle of prosecco, cupcake and the handwritten note, patiently waiting for me. I’ve been on several press trips in the past this is the first time I came across a hotel that cared enough to come up with these attentions. I am fully aware that it was a “good publicity move”, but I think the act alone speaks heaps about the excellence of their customer service. They didn’t have to do it - but they did it anyway because they care.

base2stay’s rooms

My room was surprisingly well proportioned by London standards, and made my stay that much more comfortable. Especially the bathroom! Not feeling cramped under your suitcase is a rare luxury in London’s accommodation options, and base2stay definitely nailed that part. And all the others, for that matter.

It took everything I had to get up in the morning because the bed was so comfy, and the comforter so warm. There were power outlets on either sides of the bed, which doesn’t sound really important for the average traveler but are vital to a travel blogger.

The kitchenette was small but functional. I’m a big fan of breakfasts-in-bed and the mini-fridge gave me the perfect opportunity to do so.

base2stay’s location

The hotel is based in the lovely borough of Kensington, and a 3 minute walk from Earl’s Court tube station (Piccadilly and District lines). There are hundreds of pubs, shops, grocery shops and restaurants within a stone throws, and are a delight to walk from back to the hotel after a night out. And while such a handy location could mean lots of noise, the hotel faces the quiet and quaint Courtfield Gardens, and most rooms overlook a tranquil mew. No noise to interrupt a restful sleep.

Location, location, location: mission accomplished.

My verdict

I had high expectations for base2stay and I’m very happy to report that not only did they not disappoint, they excelled and far surpassed what I had in mind. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quality, comfortable, reasonably-priced hotel in one of London’s most picturesque neighborhoods.

Thumbs up to base2stay Kensington!
