Monday’s Postcard: Rome’s Subway, Italy

I visited Rome a while ago, and was amazed at how the city is a museum in itself.

Every street corner is an architectural and artistic surprise, and that was honestly my favorite part of the visit, even more so than the three thousand year history. But my biggest surprise came when I was in the subway - wagons were covered in graffiti and street art!

It kind of took me aback because most transportation systems in the world tend to erase graffiti as soon as they are made instead of watching them multiply. Freedom of speech? Budget? Overall laid-back spirits? I’m not sure why Rome’s subway is so highly decorated, but it sure did make me look twice!

Any explanations?

Have you ever been on the Rube subway? Have you seen those colorful cars?
