What is the point of telling your secrets to everyone? not to mention that they are likely “secrets de Polichinel” that quite a few people already know.

Because cool places are constantly changing. By the time a new cool place comes around, the older cool place is forgotten - and then it’s born again as a classical and once very hip place where that actor used to hang out. It happens to every city.

Well, they are “secrets” compared to the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. I think that everybody likes to feel that they have found their own little places, and it’s always interesting to see what is on each person’s list.

Apart from the Canal Saint-Martin, I never heard of these places!! If I ever return to Paris, I’ll try a few of them for sure :)

Thank you for your comment! I hadn’t heard about these places either, I am just lucky enough to have a handful of friends who used to live in Paris and agreed to share their gems.

Other people’s secrets are either too good to keep or not worth keeping.

What a cool idea. Getting a local’s recommendation on some interesting places and putting them on the map is great. It’s one way to find some new spots you might not ever have heard of before. I haven’t heard of any of these places before either.

Locals recommendations are gold, indeed. Is there a worst experience as a tourist than to be treated as one in a tourist trap? Authenticity is the key! Thank you for your comment.

I think that Paris is one place where it really pays to avoid the tourist traps and enlist the help of a local to find some more special places

Although the tourist traps are sometimes worth the hassle, I agree that hidden places are more special. Nothing like insiders tips!

  8. I must have gotten lucky and stumbled upon some great places while I was in Paris. Unfortunately, I do not have my travel journal (was not doing it electronically at the time) to share here now.

There is a sushi place on the same street as the Best Western (near the Opera and Pyramides) that I really liked. It was a few years back, for some reason I have a memory of a giant “boat” for sharing going for 35 euro. And it was BIG — with all the good stuff, too, no cheaping out and using the filler stuff. Just thinking about it is making me hungry. ;)

    Salut Marie!
Just clicked on 2 sites to find this AWFULL statement on the Ile(s) des Cygnes : “famous for its REPLICA” of the Statue of Liberty”… As it happends to be, it is NOT a replica, it is in fact the original as it was done BEFORE the NY one, as a scaled down model to check everything. I am not 100% sure of the story, just 99%. I might be wrong! Thx for your blog!
