Where to Stay in London: Umi Hotel London

During my recent trip to London, I had the chance to stay at the Umi Hotel London and experience their concept: luxury on a budget. I was seduced by the idea and couldn’t wait to experience it for myself.

The surroundings of the hotel certainly are a big plus - it’s located on an iconic victorian street, right in front of a pretty, calm square. It’s also a short walk from Bayswater tube station, as well as the many restaurants, bars and shops of near Notting Hill Gate, not to mention the beautiful nearby Kensington Gardens. So location-wise, the Umi Hotel London is absolutely perfect.

The checkin was a breeze - the reception clerks were very professional and friendly, and made sure I had everything I needed. They even provided me with free wifi, and free breakfast, as part of my press trip package. Not that either of these options are expensive when purchased at the reception! Had I been in London for longer, I would have also used the concierge service to book theater tickets.

The room itself was a nice surprise. After a not so great experience the night before, I was happy to enter a spacious, cosy room, fully equipped with cable TV and coffee/tea making facilities. The decor of my room was a bit tired and could have used an update (but from what I understand the hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment), especially in the bathroom. But really, it was nothing that could not be overlooked and I was more than happy with my choice.

The following morning, breakfast was served in the adjacent Yumi Coffee Shop (until midday, which is a huge plus!). I liked the idea of ticking off items off the menu and having them served to me. And thanks to the free wifi, I was able to plan my day while having breakfast and coffee. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend booking a room at the Umi Hotel London. It provides excellent quality/value and for around £60 per night, it’s certainly one of the best budget hotels in London.
