Where to stay in Malmo: Hotel Master Johan

Posted on 19. Jan, 2013 by in Destinations, Europe Travel, Reviews, Sweden

During my stint across Scandinavia with Eurail.com, I had planned to only stay two nights in Malmö, which I thought would give me ample time to explore the city and the surroundings. How wrong was I! There are many things to see and do in the area, and a few more nights would have been appreciated.

But luckily, I was able to make the most out of my time in Malmö thanks to the super-central hotel I stayed at - the Hotel Master Johan.

Hotel Master Johan: The Location

It is pretty clear from the map that a hotel location in Malmö doesn’t get any better than this - a 10 minute walk from the train station, and approximately 33 seconds from the central square, where you will find an abundance of shops, cafés, attractions and restaurants. I always thought it was worth the steeper price to stay in a very central location, and the Hotel Master Johan proved me right once again.

Hotel Master Johan: The Hotel

The hotel is not massive nor is it too small - just the right size, for the perfect mix of conviviality and privacy. The breakfast room is delightful and very sunny, and furnished with taste. And the breakfast buffet is just like being at home, or in your friends kitchen, with a cook at your request.

One thing I really appreciated is how sound-proof the hotel is - not once was I bothered by the noise, inside or outside. Also a plus: the wifi connection was irreproachable.

My only remark is that the decor is a bit dated, but however in perfect condition - it’s only a question of taste, and not a lack of professionalism on their part, I assure you!

Hotel Master Johan: The Rooms

My room was probably the most spacious one I had ever had in my life - it’s bigger than my first apartment, that’s for sure. It featured a king bed, a large chest, a living room and a desk, as well as a large bathroom. To be honest, there was SO much space, I didn’t know what to do of it - I tried to give every area a chance, and my favorite one was the living room. After spending so much time traveling, it felt nice to have a proper place to sit down and unwind.

My only wish is that I would have stayed longer - I feel like I didn’t get to fully appreciate the room!

***

I really couldn’t recommend this hotel enough - the location is fantastic, the staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious and fully equipped. Should I visit Malmö again in the future, it’s without a doubt that I would book at Hotel Master Johan again.

Disclaimer: I was a guest of Hotel Master Johan. As always, all opinions are my own.

Indeed, I always tell my wife that it’s worth paying more and not have to walk 15 minutes to get to the hotel after a long day exploring. This hotel is great!

I’m not sure about the decor in the rooms, but it seems very spacious and comfortable, without a doubt. I’d love to take a bath there!

I will have to travel to southern Sweden for work in April - I think I will ask to stay at this hotel, because I too hate walking too much. The small living room will be appreciated after a day of conventions!

I have stayed there before, and I think I had the same room as you. I loved it too!
