Yo! Sushi: The Most Fun You’ll Have Eating Sushi in London

Posted on 25. Nov, 2011 by in Destinations, Europe Travel, United Kingdom

I remember walking past several Yo! Sushi branches when I used to live in London, and always found the concept to be really cool. In fact, not trying it out was one of my biggest regrets!  However, sushi is a delicacy I only recently discovered, and curse myself for not being brave enough to try it before. I have become obsessed with sushi since then and I was really eager to try out Yo! Sushi’s concept last time I was in the capital.

The decor itself is really cute - clean, pure white lines with pops of bright colours everywhere. The stools are alined with the bar, which goes all around the open kitchen to form an open, breezy restaurant. Every stool has its own little station, with ginger and wasabi, as well as water fountains.

Yo! Sushi

Yo! Sushi concept is fairly simple - you take your pick from the conveyor belt, enjoy your meal and add up the prices of the colour-coded plates before paying. Uncomplicated and fun! Not only can you instantly spot your favorite sushis, but also try some new dishes on the spot. No reason to keep eyeing that spicy teriyaki, now! I myself discovered the tasty mushis, a rice cake ball with a sweet filling. The texture is kind of surprising for first-timers, but it tastes so good!

Quality-wise… now’s the time to be honest. Yo! Sushi certainly does not offer the best sushis in town, that’s pretty clear. I find that the rice is not sticky enough, and that they use too much wasabi. But that’s just my two picky cents. They were far from mediocre and every plate I chose was satisfactory if not better. If you have £100+ to spend in a fancy sushi restaurant, go for it - in the meantime, Yo! Sushi is just fine by me.

In overall, I am a huge fan of Yo! Sushi concept, decor and most especially, their specials: Sumo Sunday (all-you-can-eat for £18.50) or Blue Mondays (30+ different plates at £2.30 each). I’d recommend visiting during either one of these offers, because otherwise prices can add up pretty quickly.

Have you been to Yo! Sushi before? Or any other similar sushi restaurant? What were your impressions?

Haven’t tried this one. Will definitely do next time I’m in London though :-)

  2. We’ve been craving good sushi for months, but haven’t managed to find anything decent recently. Granted, we haven’t been trying very hard. :) I wish we had visited this place when we were in London!

The specials are truly worth it, because regular prices are quite inflated IMO. Sumo Sundays are particularly worth it.

Is it possible to get sushi without wasabi there? Cannot stand the stuff!

Yes, you can actually get any sushi you like from the chef, is nothing tickles your fancy on the conveyor belt. It’s actually pretty easy since the bar kind of goes around the open-air kitchen.
