Tirol, Oetz Valley and Innsbruck, an Austrian Photo Essay

Posted on 19. Sep, 2011 by in Austria, Destinations, Europe Travel, Photo Posts

When I decided to attend Travel Bloggers Unite in Innsbruck, I knew I was in for a treat. Not only was the city absolutely stunning, but the trip to the Oetz Valley afterwards, including the relaxing spa day, was nothing short of perfect. Austria and I had a rendez-vous manqué in 2009 - I longed to visit for a long time and then TBU happened. Perfect timing!

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I figured I could simply spare you the description of the sights I was lucky enough to see and simply let you enjoy it with your own eyes through this photo essay.

Innsbruck Alps Austria photography

After two hot and sunny summer days, the weather darkened overnight and the temperature dropped below 10 degrees. Later in the afternoon, the clouds cleared up and gave way to this beautiful scenery, snow-capped mountains as a bonus.

The white river Ill that goes through the city, with the Hofkirche on the right and the Alps on the left. I took this snap during the photo tour with photographer Ken Kaminesky, which I really enjoyed.

The beautiful Hofkirche, once again during the photography tour.

The famous 14th century Golden Roof in the center of Innsbruck. A little later that day I happened to walk by this sight just in time for an impromptu concert.

Maria Theresen Strasse, beautiful with the late afternoon light and the clouds clearing up. Nearby you can find many high street stores, but also the Swarovski flagship store.

A typically Austrian dish: the wiener schnitzel, with parsley potatoes and a cranberry jam, at the Stiftskeller.

The view from my hotel room at the Aqua-Dome Spa Resort in the Oetz Valley. I could've gotten used to that view in the morning!

The different outdoor pools at the Aqua-Dome. I particularly enjoyed the salt water jacuzzi.

The beautiful Lake Piburg in the Oetz Valley, where I enjoyed a leisury hike and a lovely waterside lunch.

Disclaimer: this trip was sponsored by Aqua-Dome Spa ResortÖetz Valley tourism and Tourism Innsbruck as part of the TBU conference. As always, all opinions are my own.

Have you been to Austria? If yes, what were your favorite sights? If not, what is on your bucket list?

zaha hadid ski jump in innsbruck is great, and even the brenner pass motorway. matrei am frei just further down the valley is a perfect, small, friendly, austrian town - with fabulous views
